Introduction

I have been living and bow hunting deer in this area for over 25 years, as well as turkey hunting since its introduction in the 80’s. This year will be the first year I am offering guided hunts on my own farm and private farms in the area. Located just south of Barrie Ontario, Deer and turkey populations have steadily increased over the past 15 years all over Ontario, and the land I hunt is NO exception!

2007 deer season has ended and it was as good as 2006. We harvested some great bucks and seen a few monsters but couldn’t quite figure them out before they figured us out! Our cameras also caught some good bucks, which are posted on the web site along with photos of deer shot this year by friend’s clients and myself. This year extra tags in our area allowed us to hunt until the end of December, and I managed to sneak into a tree stand Christmas Eve!
This past season I decided to try some Rage broad heads the 2 bladed ones, and have to say I was disappointed. They constantly came open in the quiver and you have to check them all the time. I also shot a nice buck that I didn’t recover until 2 weeks later when I shot the same buck with a slick trick; he ran about 60 yards and fell over. When I opened up the deer and reached up into his chest I pulled 6 inches of arrow and my rage broad head out. It had entered his chest cavity about 8 inches back of the front leg, slid along side his heart and lodged by his windpipe. I can’t say that I have ever put an arrow into a deer’s chest that didn’t kill him!
Anyway it was a great season and now we are just waiting for the lake to freeze so we can do some fishing before we start collecting antlers and scouting for turkeys. Last but not least I have already started to pick some new tree stand sites for next year just can’t seem to stay out of the bush.
